The flagship thesis

The prize model is the engine. The land-based water target is the unlock.

The original concept got remembered as a lake business. It is not. It is a premium, skill-based jackpot business with a highly legible challenge shot and operator-favorable math. Recreate the same emotional pull on land and the whole thing becomes portable.

Core idea

Prize model

The engine is a visible jackpot plus operator-favorable math, not natural water.

Flagship shot

111 yards

One iconic distance keeps the concept legible, memorable, and content-friendly.

Prototype posture

Portable

A land-based water target removes the site chokehold and opens replication.

What changes in America

The overlooked opportunity is not that the concept works in Taupo. It is that nobody seems to have properly localized the model for a golf-rich, traffic-heavy U.S. corridor.

The lake made the original concept memorable, but it also hid the fact that the real business is the prize structure.

North Texas is unusually attractive because it combines affluent suburbs, golf culture, heavy traffic corridors, and a high concentration of serious players.

The first site should behave like a flagship with a face and identity, not an anonymous kiosk optimized only for labor savings.

Demand proof

The market backdrop is not theoretical

The flagship case gets stronger when you zoom out: golf participation is large and growing, Texas is already one of the deepest golf states in the country, and the North Texas corridor now has institutional golf gravity through PGA Frisco.

Demand signals

U.S. golf base

48M+

NGF said total golf participation exceeded 48 million in 2025, with more than 29 million on-course golfers.

Texas footprint

715

NGF's Texas snapshot counted 715 facilities statewide, reinforcing Texas as a true golf state rather than a niche market.

Collin County income

$121.6K

U.S. Census QuickFacts puts Collin County median household income at $121,600 in 2024 dollars.

North Texas pro density

~20 PGA

D Magazine reported around 20 PGA Tour pros in and around Dallas, with almost 40 total pros across North Texas.

Stateside read

The U.S. market is not empty. It is still trapped by water.

The strongest stateside analogs validate the prize-shot demand. They also reinforce the same pattern: water dependence, venue dependence, or pop-up deployment instead of a repeatable land-based flagship.

Comparables
  • Sink or Win: Texas floating-green challenge now marketing across DFW. Useful signal of local appetite, but still water-dependent and venue-partner driven.
  • TheMoneyShot.golf: Automated $10k floating-island format with leaderboard and video hooks. Strong signal for the content layer, but still built around water hazards.
  • Chip 2 Win: Mobile $10k event product that explicitly asks hosts for water. Strong proof of prize-shot demand, weak proof of land-based flagship scale.
What we are building

Asset pack for the call

  • Private flagship pitch site rather than public consumer marketing
  • One-page operator memo plus call-ready talking points
  • Research-backed sections for demand, competitive blind spots, and MVP buildout
  • Follow-up path if Chris wants economics, scope, or a live walkthrough
Deck spine

The private pitch flow

  1. 1. The blind spot: why the model never spread
  2. 2. The unlock: land-based water-target flagship
  3. 3. Why North Texas and where first
  4. 4. MVP spec: bays, target, tracking, cameras, pricing
  5. 5. Economics: flagship path vs replication path
  6. 6. Programming upside: pro board, content, earned media
  7. 7. Team shape: operator, advisor, golf-world connector
  8. 8. Next step: pilot diligence and flagship build path
What Only Aces is

A portable premium challenge business wearing a golf wrapper

  • A premium skill-based hole-in-one challenge built around one iconic 111-yard shot.
  • A visible jackpot model designed to pull repeat attempts while keeping the math in the operator's favor.
  • A land-based water-target format that preserves the emotional hook without needing a lake or pond.
What it becomes with Chris

A real flagship instead of an idea trapped in your head

  • The first site becomes the flagship proof that the model works stateside without natural water.
  • The concept gets a fast-moving operator with land, visibility, credibility, and the ability to push from idea into execution.
  • The site becomes a possible content engine: leaderboards, challenge nights, earned media, and local golf-world gravity.
What we are offering Chris

An unlock, not a random idea

He already believes in the category. The offer is the missing adaptation: remove the lake bottleneck and let the prize model spread.

A flagship thesis for the right parcel

The concept is not asking him to chase a rare waterfront or invent a new consumer behavior. It localizes a model he already likes onto a parcel that fits the flagship thesis and can move.

A template that can replicate

If the flagship proves the model, the value is no longer one site. The value is a cookie-cutter template for 2- to 3-acre tracts almost anywhere.

Capex posture

Lean pilot

$40k-$90k

A private proof rig to validate the 111-yard shot, target design, pricing, scoring, and content flow before polishing the flagship.

Public flagship MVP

$150k-$350k+

A real first site with conditioned bays, safety netting, cameras, electrical/data work, and customer-facing brand polish.

Internal structure

The visible flagship and the originating concept do not need to occupy the same lane

This project can be public-facing on the operator side while still protecting the strategic value of the concept originator behind the scenes. That distinction matters if the business needs a clean public face without weakening the originating role.

Public operator lane

The flagship likely performs better with a visible operator face, local identity, and credibility rather than a purely autonomous kiosk posture.

Concept-originator lane

The originating value is the land-based unlock, flagship logic, pricing posture, programming vision, and replication blueprint. That role can stay strategically central without needing public visibility.

Best first structure

Operator-led externally, concept-led internally: defined pre-development involvement, flagship participation, and a path into future rollout if the model validates.

Open diligence

What needs to harden next

The thesis now has enough support to stop sounding speculative. The next move is converting the strongest arguments into a real pilot path, a credible flagship budget posture, and a clean founder conversation if Chris wants to move.

  • Lock the MVP hardware stack for scoring, cameras, and target verification.
  • Separate lean pilot cost from flagship-grade build cost instead of blending them.
  • Prove customer throughput and pricing without fantasy assumptions.
  • Decide which parts need flagship polish on day one and which can stay modular.
